shrimp-fishing with the working class

so we went to this shrimp-fishing place in Taichung with a couple of the working-class people that our OMF missionaries were reaching out to...shrimp-fishing is something that's pretty popular for entertainment, and it's a great way to minister to people b/c there's a whole lotta time for conversation when you're just sitting there waiting for something to bite your bait...

please pray for open hearts for these Taiwanese men and their families

it took great skill to catch one of those prawns...perhaps skill that we did not have...

but we cooked 'em up real good

and yummm!

English Coffeehouse at Gethsemane Church in Taichung

we had the opportunity to use our English in reaching out to the local teens =) the point of the coffeehouse was just to give them an informal setting to come practice their english with us, but also for them to have a chance to hear the Gospel and have a positive experience of a church.

there were fun and games as we played jenga/uno with them (here's kimberly with flora, a girl who is a youth leader at the church)

we shared our testimonies with them (translated into mandarin by ariel, of course!) and tiffany had the special opportunity to share her testimony with her cousins

the guys learned the teenage mutant ninja turtle sign from that kid in the back=)

Vietnamese Bridemaids Ministy

We went to help babysit the children, while the Vietnamese brides sat in Mandarin classes. This was a way to get to know them better, form relationships, and then minister to their whole family...one of the ways of reaching the middle class.

some of us also helped clean up the center doing some hard labor by weatherproofing their shelves and also cleaning up water damage caused from a recent fire next door.

While we were cleaning up the facilities, the canadian girls went out prayer walking around the area. They met some other canadian in this county of Taiping- a pharmacist who just happened to have medicine that we were looking for! God is faithful in providing for us and also showing us new people to minister to.

We're back!

We arrived safely back in the States tonight.  Praise God!  The flight was a little shaky at first, and we ran into some complications at both ends of the flight, but we're all back and healthy, so it's all good ^^  We're in SoCal right now, debriefing for about three days and then heading our separate ways.  In these coming days, we'll be sharing our experiences with other short-term workers, as well as reflecting upon them and the things that God taught us in Taiwan.  Please pray that we'll be open to what God wants to teach us, and that we'll be sensitive to the Holy Spirit as we look back on the past few weeks.  Thanks!  God bless.

Videos from the Conference (Kids' Program Performances)

Okay, so we got a little media-happy with our entries. It's just easier showing you guys than putting it into words, which is what our e-mail updates are for. (Sorry that they've been few and far between. We're working on it.) In any case, this is going to be our final week in Taiwan. It's started pouring rain (typhoon season), so hopefully it'll ease up for the coffee bar and for going around the area with missionaries this week. ^^
